MEET ADAMA
Welcome to Your Doorway to the African Diaspora!
The African Diaspora Art Museum of Atlanta is an innovative museum showcasing contemporary art and culture of the African Diaspora. We amplify the diverse voices of our global family through the creation of immersive experiences, cultivating shared learning, and facilitating meaningful points of connection.
Why Our Village
ADAMA’s mission is rooted in the desire to fill an institutional gap by establishing a museum for contemporary art by people of African descent in Atlanta, GA. We are creating space to amplify Black artists and cultivate space to tell authentically African diasporic stories. We're looking forward to building our home village in ATL.
MEET OUR FOUNDER
Dr. Fahamu Pecou
Every where we go, there we are.
My love and passion for art has literally taken me around the world. No matter what continent, country, or city I’m in, the influence of the African Diaspora can be felt. Whether its visual art, music, food, or architecture, contributions by Black artists and thinkers enhances every aspect of our global, cultural experience. I’m always left with a sense of connection and the feeling that somehow, ‘Every where we go, there we are’.
In my travels, no where has this been more apparent than right here in Atlanta. For generations, this thriving metropolis has helped nurture and produce some of the most influential Black leaders across all sectors from the arts to entertainment to Fortune 500 corporations.

WHO WE ARE
ADAMA’S CORE PILLARS
/ 01
EXPERIENCES
We refer to our programming as experiences. Far from a traditional program or event, we are dedicated to curating experiences that are dynamic, sensory-rich, and immersive global representations that are unapologetically centered around the Black experience and expression.
/ 02
CONNECTION
We serve to intentionally deepen Black people's sense of connection to themselves and the greater diaspora through the lens of contemporary art and culture. This sense of belonging is embodied in tangible and intangible ways. Connection is our why and our how; as we seek it, it seeks us in return.
/ 03
LEARNING
Our educational components are referred to as learning in lieu of the word education which traditionally has an authoritative and patriarchal connotation that isn’t representative of who we are. We cultivate shared learning environments for all to take part in. We want to learn, share, and grow alongside our fellow villagers across the African Diaspora.
/ 04
AMPLIFICATION
Amplification of inclusive, positive Black experiences are the result of all our efforts combined. What we seek to measure as a collective is felt, observed, witnessed, and sometimes calculated. We intend to measure the quantitative and qualitative impact of our multi-sensory experiences, shared learning, and points of connection acquired.
