ADAMA Arts Salon #40

ADAMA Arts Salon is a series of conversations featuring contemporary artists, curators, scholars, and more from across the African Diaspora.

Join us for ADAMA's upcoming in-person Arts Salon  featuring Dr. Fahamu Pecou and Lauren Tate Baeza in conversation with Talecia Tucker.

About Moderator: Talecia Tucker is an interdisciplinary artist and visual storyteller born and raised in Atlanta, GA. Their work explores the social and cultural nuances of Black identity, especially in the American south, and seeks to honor all facets of Black life from the quotidian to the extraordinary.

Dr. Fahamu Pecou: An interdisciplinary artist and scholar whose works combine observations on hip-hop, fine art, and popular culture to address concerns around contemporary representations of Black men. Through paintings, performance art, and academic work, Dr. Pecou confronts the performance of Black masculinity and Black identity, challenging and expanding the reading, performance, and expressions of Blackness.

Lauren Tate Baeza: A scholar of African art and political history. Academically trained in cultural geography, she is particularly interested in materiality and the spatial distribution of cultural phenomena. She currently serves as the Fred and Rita Richman Curator of African Art at the High Museum of Art and was previously Director of Exhibitions at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, where she curated the Morehouse College Martin Luther King Jr. Collection and organized numerous temporary exhibits engaging the visual arts to address social issues. Baeza lectures and consults at nonprofit organizations, universities, municipalities, and federal departments on a range of cultural and sociopolitical topics related to Africa and the African diaspora.
